Let’s experience Tokyo Japan for the FIRST TIME – – Head to http://www.squarespace.com/paddydoyle to save 10% off your first purchase of a website or domain.

Today I will take us to the heart of Tokyo, Japan, exploring some of the city’s most iconic spots, all while clocking in over 20,000 steps! Our journey starts at the modern and sleek Hotel Toranomon Hills before we head to the upscale shopping district of Ginza. From there, we make our way to the peaceful Imperial Palace grounds, where Japan’s rich history is beautifully preserved amid the bustling city.

Next, we visit the tranquil Meiji Jingu shrine, a sacred escape tucked away in the urban jungle. After that, it’s time to experience the energy of Tokyo at the famous Shibuya Scramble Crossing, where we join thousands of others navigating one of the busiest intersections in the world. We’ll also stop for some mouthwatering sushi at Sushiro in Shinjuku before encountering the massive Godzilla Head looming over Kabukicho.

Our exploration doesn’t end there! As evening sets in, we wander through the atmospheric Shinjuku Golden-Gai, a collection of narrow alleys lined with tiny bars, and the nostalgic Omoide Yokocho, filled with local food stalls and the scents of grilled yakitori. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a Tokyo enthusiast, this video will take you on an immersive journey through the soul of this incredible city!

  1. If you enjoyed this exploration of Tokyo then please SUBSCRIBE as we have more content on Japan coming in the next few weeks!

  2. Hey Paddy, I’m Ai, a viewer from Tokyo.
21:26 , sushi train. The reason sushi aren’t going around is that one silly lad once licked and did stupid things on sushi that were going around, he had put movies on TikTok, that’s why a lot of places stopped making sushi go around now 🥹

  3. That’s a very informative video about Tokyo. You’ve done a pretty good job in making this video and making it easy to understand for a first time visitor to Tokyo. I’m visiting Japan around February and it’ll be my first time too

  4. You and your girlfriend should experience an onsen (hot spring) if you have the time. But then again looks like you’re traveling in warmer weather. I usually go in cooler weather and love soaking in an onsen. The last time we were there for six weeks ( last year) and for six nights we stayed at different onsens. Btw, looks like you got ripped off paying 4,000 yen for a beer in Kabukicho. Not sure if you walked around Shimbashi at night along the train line yet. It’s like going back to the 60’s and 70’s. It’s not a known tourist area. Thank god we found that place.
Ps: loved the look on your face when you saw those Go- Karts 😂😂..

  5. For myself as a cyclist, the vending machines were awesome while in Japan. Loved it that they were just everywhere. Up in the mountains, in the middle of endless fields, just random vending machines on the side of the road everywhere. They were clutch.

  6. Taiwan next? Visit me here if you come! We're just next door…October is the best month to visit…Judging by your Newcastle pre-season match comments, this video was recorded a month or so ago, so I guess you are no longer in the neighborhood. But if you ever come, you're always welcome. I've lived here 35 years , so I know the place pretty well…

  7. Fulham 3 Newcastle 0. ..Oops….sorry , I couldn't resist…I'm an Arsenal fan, so it was great (for me anyway!) to see ESR and Nelson, both recently Arsenal players, score…Excellent video!

  8. @paddydoyle you seemed to have no clue about the famous statue of the dog (Hachiko) in this video. You’re always so good at the facts around these types of local things.
Later today we watch a video of yours from a year ago in Chiang Mai in the “Tokyo” style area and you gave great interesting details about the statue of the same dog there.
Just thought it was funny as I was all thrown when you knew nothing of the famous story in this video. 😂

Love the videos. This just made me chuckle.

  9. Hey Paddy, I can second some of your observations of Japan, as I was there for 5 days earlier this month. Cleanliness and efficiency come to mind the most. I became familiar with the things within walking distance and found the things I needed were close by. Many people riding bicycles for transportation. Young and old like me!! 😊

  10. I have been waiting for this vlog for a long time, Paddy. I love Japan and you have finally made it! I am surprised that for such a major country and beginning of a new series, that you didn't have an intro to it like your Vietnam and Philippines series. I am so glad you showcased Golden Gai, which was the most unique part of Tokyo. I agree Shinjuku is a bit dodgy, but it was my favorite part of the city without a doubt. Looking forward to this series!

  11. I'm a big fan of yours Paddy, living in Thailand also and have followed you since the beginning of your 'Every province in Thailand' began. My family have now been to 60 provinces in Thailand which we started in part, because of your story and wanted to take on the challenge ourselves.

This video in particular was very low energy, seemed to have no direction, very little information about the places you visited, which is not normal for your channel. Due to low light the quality of the video was quite bad in many shots, the music used just did not work, overall it really felt like little to no effort was put into this.

    Pick it up Paddy!

  12. Japan Sushiro's don't have the food on the belts anymore after some kids licked a plate or something like this for a joke and posted the video. After this they only do order via tablet only.

  13. A lot of people notice Japan, has been living in the year 2000 since 1980. They just never moved past the year 2000. They had a economic disaster so that didn't help, but its a great contry to travel in.

  14. Welcome to Tokyo, Paddy! Hope you're having a blast. If you venture over to the East side of Tokyo (Asakusa, Ueno, Tokyo Skytree) and need a guide/fancy some company, let me know. From a fellow Englishman and long time resident of Tokyo. 🙂

  15. 37 million people. Almost no litter. No graffiti. No dregs or homeless wandering aimlessly. How refreshing compared to the US cities.

  16. I remember going to Tokyo 24 years ago and seeing coffee in a can for the first time !!! And to top it off it was in a vending machine !i was so amazed that i wrote about it in a postcard home 🙂

  17. Knowing that you are a huge Newcastle supporter, any plans to visit or promote Saudi Arabia? Might be quite lucrative! 🤣 Joking aside, keep up the great content!
