島根半島の最西端の断崖にある『出雲日御碕灯台』は、海面から灯塔の灯火までは63.30m、地面から塔頂まで(塔高)が43.65mあり、石造灯台としては日本一の高さを誇ります。
灯台上部の展望台へは灯台内部に設置されている163段の螺旋階段を上る事でたどり着けます。
真っ白な外壁は、松江市美保関町で切り出された硬質の石材、内壁はレンガ造りで、外壁と内壁の間に空間を作った特殊な二重構造になっていて、その歴史や文化的な価値の高さから、1998年(平成10年)『世界の歴史的灯台百選』、2013年(平成25年)『国の登録有形文化財』、2022年(令和 4年)『国指定重要文化財』に選ばれています。

Izumo Hinomisaki Lighthouse, located on a cliff at the westernmost tip of the Shimane Peninsula, is 63.30m from sea level to the lighthouse’s light tower and 43.65m from the ground to the top of the tower (tower height), making it the tallest stone lighthouse in Japan.
The observation deck at the top of the lighthouse can be reached by climbing the 163-step spiral staircase inside the lighthouse.
The pure white exterior walls are made of hard stone quarried in Mihonoseki-cho, Matsue City, and the interior walls are made of brick, with a special double structure that creates a space between the exterior and interior walls. Due to its high historical and cultural value, it was selected as one of the “100 Best Historic Lighthouses in the World” in 1998 (Heisei 10), a “Nationally Registered Tangible Cultural Property” in 2013 (Heisei 25), and a “Nationally Designated Important Cultural Property” in 2022 (Reiwa 4).
