What I Spend in Tokyo as a 27 Year Old Office Worker | Groceries, Taxes, Cost of Living

RIP my wallet, lost to taxes 🙏

I decided to track a week of my spending! I used to track my spending really well as a grad student since my money was much more…restricted…but since I started working fulltime again I’ve kind of abandoned it….do you track your spending? Maybe I should pick it up again hehe

This was a really normal week for me I think!! Let me know if you’d like to see a month or something! Do you find this expensive or cheap? Let me know down below in the comments 🤗

  1. It seems a little expensive however you did get new shoes. Me and my partner live off the equivalent of 45,000 yen per week in New Zealand. Happy birthday ^.^

  2. Hi Allison, Awesome video, as usual. Please do the rent and utilities comparison. I think that would be interesting fo ra lot of people. For comparison a 3LDK in Okinawa (Nago) is around 75000 Yen.

  3. "I just can't stop getting sweet treats… it really keeps me going through the day" What I say to myself every day 😆

  4. II tanjoubi! Omoshirokatta! Arigatogozaimashita! Would be interested in monthly expenses and also income, etc. taxes. Didn't know about residents tax, but maybe that's like city/state taxes in the US?

  5. I love the theme, one thing I'd love to know is a rough breakdown of how much goes to food/living/entertainment. And at what point you'd consider moving elsewhere (in Tokyo).

  6. I use my Suica card for EVERYTHING. I love how it's accepted almost everywhere.

Don't sweat the conbini trips, heck, I go to one sometimes 3 times a day. lol

  7. Happy birthday to you Allison ❤. If I compare my life in where a live vs Japan i think I'll move to Japan cuz it's cheap to me and yes i wouldn't mind seeing a nother video prior to this subject ur content is so entertaining yet informative , thanks for sharing ,love u ❤

  8. Thanks for sharing the typical daily life stuff. I think that's great for people to see. It's not all anime and temples and sushi every day. I used to just think of ¥100 as $1 in my head when I lived near Osaka years ago. That's essentially how it's treated as a local. So, not considering the current exchange rate, which is always changing, it felt like you spent roughy $300 for a week. That's not too bad.

  9. Oh definitely make a video about taxes, utilities, rent etc. I'm looking into moving there and it would be very helpful to see what is to be expected.

  10. Subscribed because a daily life expenses are interesting and similar breakdowns of costs of basically just living even the monthly expenses be interesting

  11. Thanks for sharing Allison! Out of curiosity, do the grocery stores there have organic/healthy sections like they do in the States? Or is that not really a thing over there?

  12. I think you are spending too much at the convenience stores. I used to do that not anymore and I’m saving a lot of money. I make my own food for work and try not too buy too many coffees, the money I save I can buy stuff that I want. 😊 HAPPY BIRTHDAY 🎉🎉🎉🎉

  13. I love your videos!! We plan to visit Japan next year and it's so helpful to hear the generic costs of daily life. Also, it's so fun to hear you speak Japanese!

I don't know much, but you sound great! 🎉

  14. Thank you for posting this! Very informative. California's gotten so expensive, my husband and I have good jobs but with food and living expenses being double how much is used to be, it's still a struggle. Not to mention rent😭
