Danjiri Matsuri (だんじり祭り), which can be translated as “cart-pulling festival,” is a common sight across Japan in the Fall. Danjiri are big, wheeled wooden carts resembling miniature temples, with ornaments and elaborate carvings. In Ashiya, one humble danjiri passed through the street outside of our home.
